Word of Introduction

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear members of the Czech Society of Cardiology, dear guests,

We would like to welcome you as traditionally to the 26th Annual Congress of the Czech Society of Cardiology with international participation, which takes place on 6-9 May 2018. This year's event will have a very interesting program composed mainly of educational blocks proposed by associations and working groups of our society and scientific presentations of active participants.

As in the past year we are going to continue with interactive sections, debates in favour and against, we will also continue with the proven educational blocks, including the educational sections designed especially for young cardiologists in pre-degree preparation.  We will endeavour to ensure that foreign guests participate, including the President of the European Society of Cardiology. One of the main topics of the Congress will be the role of a cardiologist for patients with a high risk of cardio-embolic stroke and his or her role in its solution.

Naturally, it is not possible to physically attend all interesting presentations and blocks in the course of the Congress. Therefore, as in the previous years, we have prepared an access to the presentations with authors' permission on the CSC website.  Thus you will be able to see them any time. Also this year we will seek maximum integration of electronic media including an electronic program. For those of you who prefer the paper version, the printed program will still be available in a limited amount. However, we would be happy if the use of electronic media prevailed, with respect to the economical and ecological burden.

We firmly believe that the Congress program will attract your attention and we will meet in Brno.

The Best of Czech Cardiology

Every year, this section of the CSC Annual Congress presents the best original scientific papers of the CSC members, originated at workplaces in the Czech Republic and published in international journals with impact factor > 2.0 in the previous year. Citations for all registered papers (if they meet the conditions set below) are published in the congress program and several of the best ones (based on the IF value) are presented in a special section within the Congress. The best three papers are awarded by the CSC Committee. Also the papers that are not selected for oral presentation are among the best what the Czech cardiology has produced in the field of research.

Conditions for a paper inclusion in the section:

  • The paper was published in a journal with impact factor >2.0 during the calendar year preceding the given CSC Congress to which it is registered.
  • The paper originated at a workplace in the Czech Republic.
  • The first author is a CSC member.
  • The paper is original, presenting the results of author’s/authors’ own research (not a review, an editorial, an abstract, nor a case study).
The paper did not originate abroad (e.g. during a stay of a Czech doctor abroad).

The assessment committee will choose the three best papers and their authors will be announced and financially awarded during the CSC Evening Gala (1st place - 50,000 Czk, 2nd place - 30,000 Czk, 3rd place - 10,000 Czk)
